Parliament has confirmed that they will be looking into the root causes of headlight glare to identify potential countermeasures.
Earlier this year, the RAC conducted a survey which found that 89% of drivers thought that some headlights on modern vehicles are too bright, with 91% admitting to getting dazzled by oncoming vehicles. The RAC believe that around 280 road accidents are caused by headlight glare each year.
The invention of LED technology has revolutionised lighting in all areas thanks to its wide range of benefits including energy efficiency and cost savings. It was brought into the automotive industry in 2004, when it was installed on the Audi A8 as daytime running lights.
A petition organised earlier this year urged the Government to carry out a review and was signed by more than 14,000 drivers.
This follows campaigning on the issue by the RAC, the College of Optometrists, Baroness Dianne Hayter – head of the LightAware group – and others, who met with the Department for Transport at its offices in Whitehall in January.
RAC road safety spokesman Rod Dennis said:
We are a stockist of JW Speaker, an American company famed for their high quality aftermarket lights. They’ve been perfecting their LED lights for 85 years for vehicles from trucks and busses to off-road 4x4s and motorbikes.
