Despite an expected drop in August due to the summer shut down, production figures for 2024 remain at their highest since 2010
August is traditionally a low output month in the automotive industry, with figures falling by 10% following an excellent July. 6,044 units left the factories this month, compared to 15,252 in July.
As well as being a severe drop compared to July, this August was also 10% lower than last year. Exports stayed broadly the same whereas domestic output fell by -21.3% year on year.
However, figures for the year remain positive. Despite August’s figures looking low, this was equivalent to just 673 fewer units. Year to date volumes are still up 8.8% on 2019’s pre-pandemic output.
This year to date, the UK has produced 78,805 commercial vehicles; a rise of 5.8% compared to 2023 and our best performance in 14 years.
Volumes are also up a staggering 72.3% on 2019 levels – driven by exports, up 12.0%, with 52,389 units shipped overseas. Output for the domestic market, however, fell -4.7% to 26,416 units.
